Spacetech Startups Urge Telangana Government to Build Dedicated Space City in Hyderabad

Founders of 14 Indian spacetech companies have urged the Telangana government to develop a dedicated 'Space City' in Hyderabad to cluster the ecosystem and provide specialised infrastructure for testing, manufacturing, and scaling deeptech products.

The proposal was submitted during a meeting with IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu at the secretariat on Saturday evening. The delegation included representatives from startups such as Skyroot Aerospace, Dhruva Space, Constelli, TakeMe2Space, Cosmoserve Space, Abyom SpaceTech & Defence, Sanyark Space, XDLINX Space Labs, EON Space Labs, Red Balloon Aerospace, AnduraX, Bluj Aerospace, Apollyon Dynamics, and Vassar Labs.

Minister Sridhar Babu agreed to examine the suggestion as part of the state's plan to position Hyderabad among the top five spacetech hubs globally. He noted that space technology represents the next growth pillar for Telangana alongside IT, life sciences, and aerospace and defence.

According to the minister, more than 30% of India's cutting-edge spacetech companies are currently based in Hyderabad. He highlighted the presence of strategic institutions such as DRDO, DRDL, RCI, NRSC, and ISRO's ADRI, along with global aerospace firms like Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, Collins Aerospace, and Boeing.

Pawan Kumar Chandana, founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, said Hyderabad will remain central to where the company designs, builds, and scales its launch technologies following its first orbital flight. Dhruva Space co-founder Chaitanya Dora Surapureddy added that the company is establishing a large manufacturing facility in the state for producing satellites weighing up to 500 kg.

The state government stated it will work on supporting specialised infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, research partnerships, and talent development to help deeptech firms scale commercially.
