Sigma Advanced Systems Secures $105M Export Order for Defence Shells

Hyderabad-based aerospace and defence firm Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has secured an export order worth nearly $105 million (around ₹1,013 crore) from a North American customer, the company announced on Monday. Under the agreement, the firm will manufacture and supply 1.47 lakh next-generation 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies.

The contract is scheduled to be executed over the next six to 12 months. The Hyderabad company stated that this order marks its latest step up the artillery ammunition value chain, following earlier manufacturing contracts for 155mm fuzes and M107 artillery shell bodies.

The programme involves the production of precision-engineered projectile casings designed for integration into extended-range ammunition systems.

Base bleed projectiles utilize a gas-generating unit located at the rear to minimize flight drag and turbulence, thereby extending the overall range of the projectile while keeping it fully compatible with standard 155mm artillery systems used worldwide.

Highlighting the significance of the deal, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and executive director of Sigma Advanced Systems, stated that the contract reflects global customer confidence in the company's execution quality and its ability to scale complex defence programmes.
