Sigma Advanced Systems Secures $104.9 Million Export Order

Hyderabad-based aerospace and defence precision component manufacturer Sigma Advanced Systems has secured a major $104.9 million (approximately ₹1,013 crore) export order from a North American customer. Announced on July 27, 2026, the contract involves the manufacture and supply of 1.47 lakh units of 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies.

The defence manufacturer confirmed that the export order will be executed over the next six to 12 months.

The manufacturing programme covers precision-engineered artillery projectile casings specifically designed for integration into extended-range ammunition systems. Unlike conventional artillery shells, which experience aerodynamic drag and turbulence at the base of the projectile during flight, base bleed shells incorporate a gas-generating unit at the rear. This unit reduces aerodynamic drag, significantly extending the effective range of the system while maintaining full compatibility with existing 155mm artillery platforms in service globally.

This contract marks a key technological progression for Sigma Advanced Systems, which had previously secured supply orders for 155mm fuzes and M107 artillery shell bodies. Base bleed shells integrate advanced aerodynamics, energetics, propulsion technologies, and systems engineering, representing a step up the value chain in artillery ammunition manufacturing.

According to Sigma, the latest order directly aligns with its corporate strategy to move up the value chain in artillery ammunition. It also serves to strengthen its engineering capabilities and programme credentials, which are expected by global customers from their long-term strategic suppliers.

The order comes amid a surge in global investment in artillery modernisation. Defence forces across multiple regions are currently focusing on ammunition stockpiling and extended-range fire-support capabilities to enhance operational readiness, the company noted in a release.

Investors reacted positively to the announcement, pushing the company's stock up. Shares of Sigma Advanced Systems closed 5% higher at ₹547.50 each on the BSE following the contract disclosure.
