Shreyas Iyer to captain India in Zimbabwe T20Is as Shubman Gill takes ODI reins

The national cricket selection committee has appointed Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to be played in Harare from July 23 to July 26, 2026. In squad announcements tracked from Hyderabad, the selectors also named Shubman Gill as the captain for the One Day International (ODI) squad against England, while Shivam Dube has officially replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in the ODI lineup.
The Indian team is scheduled to play three T20Is on consecutive alternate days, with matches set for July 23, July 25, and July 26. All three matches of the short tour will be hosted in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Shreyas Iyer will lead a 15-member T20I squad that features Tilak Varma as the vice-captain. The rest of the T20I squad consists of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan as a wicketkeeper, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakaravarthy, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, and Prabhsimran Singh as the second designated wicketkeeper.
In addition to the T20I squad, the Selection Committee announced crucial updates to India's ODI squad for the series against England. Shubman Gill will assume leadership duties as the ODI captain, with Shreyas Iyer serving as his deputy in the role of vice-captain.
The most notable change to the 50-over squad is the inclusion of Shivam Dube. The all-rounder has been named as a direct replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in the squad.
The updated ODI squad features a blend of experienced players and younger talent. The full 15-member squad includes Shubman Gill as captain, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain, KL Rahul as wicketkeeper, Ishan Kishan as wicketkeeper, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Shivam Dube.
