Shankarpally Police Arrest Rowdy-Sheeter for Alleged Extortion of Rs 50,000

The Shankarpally police arrested a rowdy-sheeter, Mohammed Muneer Pasha Qureshi, on Saturday for allegedly extorting money and threatening a couple under the pretext of settling a domestic dispute in Mahalingapuram.

According to police officials, Qureshi had been projecting himself as a local community elder in the area and intervened in marital disputes between couples. Around two years ago, he stepped into a dispute involving a local couple and allegedly collected Rs 50,000 from them on multiple occasions, assuring them that he would help resolve their differences.

However, after receiving the money, Qureshi reportedly began threatening the couple. Police stated that he issued death threats and warned the victims of dire consequences if they disclosed the extortion or payments to anyone.

Unable to endure the continuous harassment, the victims eventually approached the Shankarpally police station and lodged a formal complaint against him. Based on their complaint, investigators registered a criminal case and initiated a probe into the matter.

Qureshi had been evading arrest and stayed on the run for several days after learning about the police complaint. Acting on specific intelligence regarding his movements, a special police team tracked him down and apprehended him in Shankarpally on Saturday.

Following his arrest, Qureshi was produced before a local court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
