Shaikpet and Golconda Record Highest Rainfall as Sudden Showers Hit Hyderabad

The sudden change in weather on Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2026, brought light rainfall and showers to several parts of Hyderabad, including Shaikpet, Golconda, Srinagar Colony, RC Puram, Ameenpur, Mamidipally, Maitrivanam, Balanagar, Film Nagar, and Chandanagar. The precipitation began after 3 p.m. when cloudy conditions suddenly developed across the city, bringing wet weather to these specific localities while other areas remained dry.

According to the weather data compiled by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) up to 6 p.m. on Sunday, the bright and sunny weather observed earlier in the day gave way to overcast skies. This transition triggered light showers that were highly localized, leaving several parts of the city completely dry while others received measurable rainfall.

The TGDPS data revealed that Shaikpet recorded the highest rainfall in the city, with 14.3 mm of precipitation. Golconda registered the second-highest amount, with 11.5 mm of rainfall. These two localities saw the heaviest of the light showers that occurred after the afternoon clouds rolled in.

Other residential and commercial areas also recorded varying levels of rainfall. Srinagar Colony received 7.8 mm of rain, followed by RC Puram with 7.5 mm. Ameenpur registered 6.8 mm of rainfall, while Mamidipally recorded 5 mm of showers during the evening.

In other parts of the city, the rainfall was even lighter. Maitrivanam recorded 4 mm of rain, and Balanagar saw 3.3 mm. Film Nagar registered 2.8 mm of rainfall, and Chandanagar recorded 2 mm of rain, according to the official figures released by the TGDPS.

The sudden showers provided a brief respite from the sunny weather in the affected areas. However, the Telangana Development Planning Society noted that the rainfall was not uniform, as many other parts of Hyderabad did not receive any showers and remained dry despite the overcast conditions that developed after 3 p.m.
