Senior Maoist Leader Kakarala Samatha Surrenders to DGP in Hyderabad

Senior underground Maoist leader Kakarala Samatha, also known by her alias Madhavi, surrendered to Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand in Hyderabad on Monday. Samatha served as a senior ideologue and state committee member in the CPI (Maoist) organization, where she was primarily entrusted with overseeing women's issues as well as intelligence and propaganda operations in urban areas.

Samatha is a native of Rajamahendravaram. Her father was the late film actor Kakarala Sathyanarayana, who acted in approximately 300 movies during his career in cinema before passing away in 2022. Her political involvement began decades earlier in 1985, when she joined the erstwhile People's War Group (PWG) while studying in her second year of Intermediate education in Chennai.

Over her years in the underground movement, Samatha held multiple key organisational roles across different regions. In 1991, she was transferred to Hyderabad to take up duties as a central organiser for the group. Subsequently, in 2015, she was shifted to the urban area of the South Regional Bureau, where her responsibilities focused on handling intelligence propaganda and managing women's issues in urban centres.

Following her surrender in Hyderabad, police officials provided Samatha with immediate financial support in accordance with Telangana's rehabilitation policy for surrendered cadres. DGP C.V. Anand and state police officials presented her with a cheque for Rs 20 lakh, alongside an interim relief amount of Rs 25,000. Official releases noted that she will receive full benefits as provided under the state government's rehabilitation framework for surrendered Maoist cadres.

An official statement released regarding the surrender highlighted that 265 Maoist cadres have surrendered in Telangana so far this year. According to the release, only three active underground cadres from Telangana are currently operating in different formations of the CPI (Maoist) outside the state. One of these remaining active underground leaders operating outside Telangana is Central Committee member Muppala Laxman Rao, who is also known by his alias Ganapathi.
