SCR Partners with IIT Hyderabad for Traffic Studies at Secunderabad and Lingampalli

The Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway has engaged the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad to conduct comprehensive traffic assessment studies at Secunderabad and Lingampalli railway stations.

The initiative is designed to improve passenger dispersal, ease vehicular congestion, and strengthen multimodal connectivity in and around both key transit hubs.

According to an official release, the assessment will examine vehicular and pedestrian movement, traffic circulation, station access planning, and multimodal transport integration. It will also focus on identifying bottlenecks, assessing parking facilities, and streamlining pick-up and drop-off arrangements on the station premises. Additionally, the study will explore junction improvements, signal optimisation, and surrounding traffic management measures.

To formulate data-driven recommendations, IIT Hyderabad will deploy advanced tools including drone surveys, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-based CCTV analysis, passenger field surveys, and traffic simulation models.

Secunderabad Divisional Railway Manager R. Gopalakrishnan noted that the resulting recommendations are expected to significantly improve safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency across both stations.

The project is spearheaded by the Commercial Department in coordination with the Engineering, Operations, and Railway Protection Force wings, alongside other key stakeholders. The findings will also provide critical inputs for the ongoing redevelopment projects at the stations.
