SCCL Launches 1.23 MW Rooftop Solar Plants at Kothagudem Headquarters

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) commissioned 1.23 MW of rooftop solar power plants across its corporate buildings at Kothagudem on Friday, marking a further expansion into renewable energy alongside its core mining and thermal operations.

Dr Buddha Prakash Jyoti, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, inaugurated the new solar installations during a ceremony held at the Singareni Head Office. As part of the launch, Dr Jyoti formally connected a 100 kW solar segment located on the main office building to the electrical grid. The remaining rooftop systems have been distributed across several company buildings situated within the Singareni Corporate Area complex in Kothagudem.

Speaking after the inauguration, Dr Buddhaprakash stated that SCCL, historically recognised as a major coal producer, is steadily establishing a presence in thermal, solar, and floating solar power generation. He pointed out that the company has already set up 245.5 MW of solar power capacity across vacant land within its premises as part of its environmental initiatives.

The CMD noted that SCCL plans to set up more solar projects to help satisfy state and national energy demands, following directions issued by the central and Telangana governments. He expressed satisfaction over commissioning the 1.23 MW rooftop capacity, pointing out the value of using existing corporate infrastructure to generate clean electricity.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by several senior executives, including Director (Operations) L.V. Suryanarayana, Director (Projects & Planning) K. Venkateswarlu, and Director (E&M) M. Thirumala Rao. Senior general managers, representatives from the Coal Mines Officers' Association of India (CMOAI), trade union leaders from AITUC and INTUC, as well as company employees and officials, were also present at the event.
