Sabitha Indra Reddy and RS Praveen Kumar Placed Under House Arrest in Hyderabad

Former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Deputy Floor Leader Sabitha Indra Reddy, along with party leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar, were placed under house arrest in Hyderabad on Saturday morning. The preventive action by the police came just hours before the scheduled BRS Yuva Sangrama Sabha public meeting at the Saroornagar Stadium.
The BRS party leadership strongly condemned the police action, describing the house arrests of their prominent leaders as unconstitutional, arbitrary, and undemocratic. Party representatives questioned the rationale behind the detentions, especially since the public meeting had already received formal permission from both the local police authorities and the judiciary.
The legal clearance for the event had been secured just a day prior. On Friday, the Telangana High Court granted conditional permission for the BRS to conduct the Yuva Sangrama Sabha. In its ruling, the High Court directed the organizers to maintain strict law and order during the event. The court also issued specific instructions to ensure that the public meeting would not block or disrupt traffic on the busy Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway.
The BRS had made extensive arrangements for the Yuva Sangrama Sabha at the Saroornagar Stadium, anticipating a turnout of around 10,000 people. The organizers had planned to start the event in the morning and conclude all proceedings by 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Despite complying with the legal requirements and securing the High Court's conditional approval, the sudden restriction of Sabitha Indra Reddy and R.S. Praveen Kumar to their homes prevented them from participating in the scheduled program. BRS leaders expressed sharp criticism over the development, alleging that the administration acted in an arbitrary manner to suppress the opposition's public meeting.
