RPF Installs Solar-Powered CCTVs at Three Secunderabad Sites to Stop Stone Pelting

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) installed solar-powered CCTV cameras at three vulnerable locations in the Secunderabad railway division on June 28, 2026, to curb recurring incidents of stone-pelting, vandalism, and trespassing on moving trains.
According to railway authorities, the initiative aims to enhance passenger safety and protect railway property by identifying offenders quickly. Stone-pelting incidents on isolated stretches around Secunderabad have previously shattered coach windows, injured passengers, and disrupted rail operations. RPF officials emphasized that even a single stone thrown at a moving train can cause severe injuries and disrupt services.
To address the lack of reliable electricity infrastructure along these remote tracks, the RPF deployed solar-powered surveillance units that can function independently throughout the day. A senior RPF official stated that the cameras are mounted on high poles, providing a wide field of view over the railway tracks and surrounding areas.
The CCTV units will continuously record activities around the tracks. The RPF will monitor the footage to track down individuals involved in stone-pelting, trespassing, theft of railway materials, and other unlawful activities. The recorded videos will also serve as crucial evidence during prosecution and investigations.
In addition to tracking stone-pelters, the surveillance network is expected to help RPF personnel keep watch on habitual trespassers and deter anti-social elements from entering restricted areas, allowing officers to respond quickly to suspicious activity.
Officials warned that individuals caught damaging railway property or attacking moving trains will face strict legal action under the Railways Act and other laws, which carry severe penalties.
Railway authorities announced that the performance of the newly installed solar-powered system will be reviewed periodically. Based on the results, additional cameras may be deployed at other sensitive locations in the future.
