Rowdy-Sheeter Arrested in Shankarpally for Extorting Rs 50,000 Over Marital Dispute

The Shankarpally police arrested a rowdy-sheeter, identified as Mohammed Muneer Pasha Qureshi, on Saturday for allegedly extorting Rs 50,000 from a couple under the pretext of settling a domestic dispute and threatening them with death.

According to police officials, Qureshi had been projecting himself as a local elder and involving himself in mediating disputes between couples in the Mahalingapuram area. Around two years ago, he intervened in a marital conflict involving a local couple. While acting as an arbitrator, he reportedly collected a total of Rs 50,000 from them across multiple instances, assuring the victims that he would help resolve their marital problems.

However, after taking the money, Qureshi allegedly issued severe threats to the couple. Police said the accused warned the victims of dire consequences, including death, if they ever disclosed the extortion or reported the matter to anyone.

Following the intimidation, the victims approached the Shankarpally police station and lodged a formal complaint against Qureshi. Based on their statement, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the allegations.

Investigators noted that Qureshi had been evading law enforcement for the past few days to avoid arrest. Acting on specific intelligence regarding his whereabouts, a special police team tracked him down and apprehended him in Shankarpally on Saturday.

Following his arrest, Qureshi was produced before a local court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
