Revanth Reddy's Remarks Against KCR Trigger Political Row in Telangana

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has triggered a sharp political confrontation with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) following personal remarks directed at former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao during a public programme in Hyderabad.

Speaking at the event, Revanth Reddy questioned KCR's absence from active politics and the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Addressing his predecessor, the Chief Minister said, "What kind of comparison can there be between you and me?" Using a Telugu saying, he remarked that the difference was like that between a "Nandi" and "Pandi", and questioned how the two could be compared.

The Chief Minister made further remarks targeting KCR, stating that a donkey does not know the fragrance of sandalwood and that no matter how much paint is applied to a donkey, it will never become a racehorse.

The comments drew swift criticism from BRS leaders, who accused the Chief Minister of degrading political discourse in the state. Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao condemned the statements, stating that Revanth Reddy was resorting to personal attacks rather than addressing questions regarding his government's administrative performance. Harish Rao added that the Chief Minister was repeatedly targeting KCR to divert public attention from critical issues facing Telangana.

The controversy comes amid an escalating political dispute over KCR's role as the Leader of the Opposition. Revanth Reddy alleged that KCR has remained largely confined to his farmhouse for approximately 1,000 days and questioned why he should retain the constitutional post if he is not actively fulfilling his responsibilities.

Revanth Reddy has instructed Congress party workers to hold statewide protests from September 1 to September 6 demanding KCR's resignation as Leader of the Opposition. The demonstrations are planned in the lead-up to the Telangana Assembly's monsoon session, which is scheduled to commence on September 7.

BRS leaders defended KCR and rejected the Chief Minister's criticism, asserting that political disagreements should not degenerate into personal attacks as both parties prepare for a heated confrontation during the upcoming Assembly session.
