Revanth Reddy Urges Congress Leadership to Sack Konda Surekha, Chinna Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met All India Congress Committee general secretary K.C. Venugopal at his residence in Delhi on Tuesday, urging the party high command to remove Cabinet Minister Konda Surekha and Planning Board vice-chairman G. Chinna Reddy from their posts over alleged public indiscipline and derogatory remarks.

Revanth Reddy, who arrived in the national capital on Tuesday afternoon, pushed for the immediate implementation of recommendations submitted by the state party disciplinary committee. The committee had inquired into recent controversies and recommended the removal of both leaders after they allegedly made baseless and derogatory comments against the Chief Minister, his family members, and the Congress leadership.

The Chief Minister drove to Venugopal's residence without his regular security convoy and without accompanying party leaders. This occurred while ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, and Danasari 'Seethakka' Anasuya, alongside Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, were also present in Delhi.

During the meeting, Revanth Reddy stated that the Congress leadership could no longer overlook repeated instances of indiscipline. He highlighted that the party had previously taken a lenient approach in October last year when Surekha, her husband Konda Murali, and daughter Sushmita made derogatory remarks, letting them off with a warning following assurances that such behaviour would not recur. However, the Chief Minister noted that these commitments were broken, causing continuous embarrassment to the state government.

Revanth Reddy pointed out that public dissent from senior leaders holding Cabinet rank was damaging the party's reputation and providing political leverage to the opposition BRS and BJP. He emphasised that decisive action is critical because Telangana faces elections for Hyderabad civic bodies, the Legislative Council, and rural local bodies over the next six months.

Following the meeting, the Congress high command directed Venugopal to gather feedback from senior Telangana leaders before finalising a decision. Venugopal has initiated one-on-one consultations regarding the disciplinary committee report. Konda Surekha also reached Delhi on Tuesday to present her perspective to Venugopal, while Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka is scheduled to arrive in the capital on Wednesday morning.
