Revanth Reddy Urges Centre to Fast-Track Hyderabad Metro Phase-II and Phase-I Takeover

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has written a formal letter to Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and G. Kishan Reddy, urging the Central Government to fast-track crucial approvals for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II expansion project. In the communication, the Chief Minister also called for expediting the transition process for the state government to take over Phase-I metro operations in Hyderabad.

This urgent appeal from the Chief Minister directly references key decisions that were previously taken during high-level meetings held on June 23 and 24, 2026. Reddy emphasized that prompt administrative action is now necessary to secure the future of public transport in the capital city.

In his letter, the Chief Minister stressed the critical need to immediately appoint SBICAPS as the nodal agency for the transition. Once appointed, SBICAPS is slated to handle the valuation of Phase-I assets, manage the refinancing of high-interest loans, and prepare a comprehensive financial plan for the Phase-II expansion.

Reddy expressed serious concern over the ongoing delays in finalizing the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the nodal agency. He noted that the delay in formally assigning these responsibilities to SBICAPS is already causing operational uncertainties for the existing Phase-I metro system.

Additionally, the Chief Minister pointed out that this administrative lag is actively slowing down the essential approvals and funding required for Phase-II. He warned that continued delays would inevitably lead to project postponement and significant cost escalations.

Highlighting the vital importance of the metro expansion in addressing Hyderabad's growing public transport needs, Reddy urged the Union Ministers to personally intervene. He requested their immediate support to clear the administrative hurdles and ensure the project progresses without further delay.
