Revanth Reddy Returns to Hyderabad After MEA Denies Clearance for US Tour

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday thanked AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leaders for their backing after the Central government denied him permission to visit the United States, forcing him to cut short his tour and return to Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister had originally planned a 10-day official visit covering both the United Kingdom and the United States. Following the refusal of travel clearance, Reddy completed his scheduled engagements in London and decided to fly back to Hyderabad on August 23 instead of proceeding to Boston.

In a post on X, Reddy expressed gratitude to Kharge, party colleagues, and supporters across the country. He stated that he was taking a flight home after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) denied clearance for his US tour for political reasons, adding that he would speak about the matter upon his return to Hyderabad.

The MEA stated on Friday that political clearance was declined because the proposed itinerary for the visit was not deemed appropriate. During the planned American leg of the trip, Reddy was scheduled to visit the campuses of Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and other institutions.

The travel denial also triggered political reactions within the state. Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao said on Saturday that the Chief Minister should respond to reports suggesting he had sought a meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani during the visit. Sources from the Chief Minister's Office clarified that no such meeting with Mamdani was included in the proposed itinerary.
