Revanth Reddy Launches Young India Sports University in Gachibowli

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Gachibowli sports district and the Young India Physical Education and Sports University (YIPESU) in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony alongside Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, the Chief Minister declared that hosting the 2036 Olympic Games in Hyderabad is his lifelong dream. He also presented a pitch for Telangana to host the upcoming Khelo India games this November.
The event marked the launch of a broader initiative to establish Telangana as a major sports hub. Under the state's newly introduced sports policy, a state-of-the-art sports university and academy will be constructed across an 82-acre campus. The physical infrastructure is scheduled to be completed for a launch in December 2028.
Reddy stated that India has previously lagged behind in the sporting arena due to the lack of a clear policy. He explained that the state government established the Young India Sports University to address this gap, drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s historic "Young India" weekly newspaper.
To ensure professional management, the university has been established through a public-private partnership. Reddy assured that the institution will have full autonomy, with management handled by individuals who have championed sports, completely free from government interference.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the neglect of existing sports infrastructure in the city. He pointed out that Hyderabad, which previously hosted massive international events such as the Afro-Asian Games, the World Military Games, and the Commonwealth Games, has not hosted a significant sporting event in the past two decades. He noted that stadiums built 23 years ago are currently being leased out for weddings and political gatherings, promising that the state government will revitalise these venues for athletic use.
As part of the ceremony, the state government distributed cash incentives totalling Rs 7.15 crore to six outstanding athletes from Telangana. Addressing the gathering, Reddy shared personal anecdotes about overcoming political defeats to encourage the athletes, urging them to maintain focus and view losses as challenges to overcome.
