Revanth Reddy Directs Officials to Maximise Godavari Water Utilisation

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed irrigation officials to maximise the utilisation of Godavari river waters through lift operations from the Yellampalli, Devadula, and Sitarama projects. The directive was issued during an irrigation department review meeting held at the Chief Minister's camp office at the MCRHRD campus in Hyderabad.

The decision to step up lift operations comes as water levels in reservoirs remain below desired levels due to the impact of El Nino and other factors.

During the review, Revanth Reddy noted that water was not being stored in the Sundilla, Annaram, and Medigadda barrages in accordance with recommendations from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA). He emphasised that department officials must strictly adhere to the NDSA recommendations.

Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy informed the Chief Minister during the meeting that lift operations were currently being carried out using nine pumps at the Devadula project.

Revanth Reddy directed officials to focus on resolving even minor issues related to lift irrigation operations at both the Devadula and Sitarama projects.

In addition to water utilisation and barrage safety, the meeting reviewed the status of pending compensation payments to farmers in several villages whose lands had been acquired for various irrigation projects.
