Revanth Reddy Directs HMRL to Expedite 7.5-km Old City Metro Works

HYDERABAD — Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed senior officials of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited to expedite works on the Phase-II Metro Rail expansion in the Old City area, focusing on the 7.5-kilometre MGBS-Chandrayangutta stretch.

The chief minister issued these instructions during a review meeting conducted with senior HMRL officials in the city. The meeting took place a day after the Telangana High Court vacated its stay on land acquisition for Phase-II of the Metro Rail project, clearing the legal path for the state government and transit authorities to move forward with the expansion.

At the review meeting, Chief Minister Reddy directed HMRL officials to expedite the road widening work along the designated 7.5-km corridor between Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Chandrayangutta. He further instructed the officials to initiate the tender process for Metro construction works on this Old City corridor without any delay.

Observing a steady rise in daily Metro ridership across the existing network, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to take immediate measures to effectively handle the growing passenger load. Among the primary steps instructed was the procurement of additional Metro coaches to accommodate the increasing commuter demand.

Chief Minister Reddy sought detailed information from officials regarding the current status of pending land acquisition for the project. He instructed the authorities to finalise all pending Metro expansion plans at the earliest possible date.

Additionally, for the 7.5-km MGBS-Chandrayangutta corridor, the chief minister asked HMRL officials to consult with Delhi Metro to identify and select the appropriate technology to be used for the execution of the project.

Following the High Court's decision to vacate the stay on land acquisition for Metro Phase-II, the state government is pushing to accelerate administrative, land acquisition, and technical processes for the Old City extension to ensure that work on the corridor moves ahead systematically.
