Revanth Reddy Calls for Statewide Protests Demanding KCR's Resignation as LoP

Addressing a public meeting in Amberpet after inaugurating the Moosarambagh high-level bridge on Monday, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched a direct political offensive against Leader of the Opposition and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, calling on Congress cadres to stage statewide protests demanding KCR's resignation.

Revanth Reddy accused the former chief minister of staying away from public life and assembly proceedings for the past 1,000 days while continuing to draw public funds. He called on Congress workers, especially the youth wing, to organise protests and two-wheeler rallies at mandal and district headquarters across Telangana from Sept 1 to 6.

The statewide agitation is scheduled to culminate in a massive demonstration at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on Sept 6, one day before the commencement of the assembly’s monsoon session. Revanth described the planned action as an unprecedented protest targeting the failure of an opposition leader rather than a ruling government.

According to the Chief Minister, KCR has drawn over Rs 1.24 crore towards his salary as Leader of the Opposition, while the state government spent another Rs 21 crore on his security and bullet-proof vehicles, bringing the total expenditure to over Rs 22.24 crore during the Congress government's tenure. Revanth alleged that despite this expenditure, KCR had neither taken part in assembly debates nor dedicated time to issues concerning farmers, women, the poor, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes, despite attending memorial meetings and visiting ailing party leaders.

Revanth challenged KCR to attend the upcoming monsoon session of the assembly to debate the Congress administration's performance against the previous BRS government's 10-year record. He claimed that while previous governance had left behind Rs 8 lakh crore in debt, his administration was managing welfare schemes, development initiatives, and regular salary disbursements.

During the event, the Chief Minister also announced that Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals at Sanathnagar, Alwal, and LB Nagar would be named after former chief ministers Marri Chenna Reddy and T Anjaiah, and veteran leader Konda Laxman respectively. He further stated that the Warangal super-speciality hospital would be named after Professor K Jayashankar.

Revanth also addressed government employees' unions, appealing for their cooperation amid the state's financial situation. He stated that the government pays Rs 7,500 crore each month toward debt servicing while continuing to disburse salaries on the first of every month.
