Retired Army Officer and Sukuki Exnora Founder Major Shiva Kiran Passes Away at 61

Major Shiva Kiran, a 61-year-old retired Army officer and prominent civic activist from Kundan Bagh in Begumpet, passed away on Thursday night at a private hospital in Kondapur, Hyderabad, following a prolonged illness. He died at approximately 10:10 PM after his health deteriorated suddenly.
The retired officer had been receiving medical treatment at the Kondapur facility following a surgical operation for a pancreas-linked tumor. Doctors had performed the operation twice on his pancreas, but his condition worsened, leading to his demise.
Major Shiva Kiran is survived by his family, including two daughters who reside in the Kundan Bagh area of Begumpet. His final rites and funeral services are scheduled to take place at the Mahaprasthanam crematorium in Jubilee Hills on Friday at 3:00 PM.
Throughout his life, Major Shiva Kiran was widely recognized for his dedication to improving civic infrastructure and waste management across Hyderabad. He was the founder of Sukuki Exnora, a non-governmental organization that he established to lift and manage garbage. The NGO had been active in waste management efforts since the era of the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH).
In addition to Sukuki Exnora, Major Shiva Kiran was the founder of the Geo Map Society. His civic work was highly focused on the welfare of ragpickers in the city. Through his initiatives, he successfully established 50 decentralized Zero Waste Projects across various parts of Hyderabad.
One of his most significant contributions to the city's sanitation infrastructure was the creation of the Swachh Auto Trolley network. This initiative established a fleet of 4,500 trolleys that currently serve waste management needs across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. His passing marks the loss of a key figure in Hyderabad's local civic and environmental administration.
