Red Hills Mosque Offers Free Electoral Roll Registration Help

Volunteers at Masjid-e-Teenposh in Red Hills, Hyderabad, are providing free digital assistance to help local residents complete their Special Intensive Revision (SIR) applications for electoral rolls. The initiative, active as of July 2026, features support from local tech professionals, including a software engineer who works in Gachibowli, to ease the anxiety of residents struggling with online enrollment.

The community service began after Moulana Obaidur Rahman Athar, the Khateeb of Masjid-e-Teenposh, noticed that many local residents were struggling to navigate the online formalities. Realising that senior citizens and those unfamiliar with technology faced significant challenges, he enlisted the services of computer-savvy youth from the locality to help.

The temporary service centre operates from a room in the adjoining Imdadul Uloom Madrasa. While students memorise the Holy Quran in one part of the building, residents wait nearby with their Aadhaar cards, EPIC cards, and physical photographs. The volunteers then use their laptops to scan and upload the documents to the electoral portal.

Three software engineers—Muhammad Amjad, Irshad, and Laeeq—are volunteering their time daily for the project. Amjad, an employee of Tata Tele Services at Shamshabad, along with Irshad and Gachibowli-based software employee Laeeq, spend several hours each day helping visitors.

The free service provides significant financial relief to the applicants. Commercial internet centres and local Photoshop stores typically charge between Rs 100 and Rs 200 to file a single SIR form. By contrast, the mosque-based initiative charges nothing.

According to the organizers, the project has turned the mosque into a hub of community service and compassion. The volunteers stated that helping their neighbors navigate the digital registration process has brought them immense satisfaction, while providing a vital source of comfort to the public.
