Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners to Hold Hunger Strike at Karkhana

The Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) has announced a one-day hunger strike on Tuesday at the Ambedkar Statue in Karkhana to protest the proposed widening of Rajiv Rahadari and the ongoing land acquisition process for an elevated corridor project. The protest is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. after property owners alleged that authorities have failed to address their concerns.

According to the JAC, several affected property owners have approached the Telangana High Court to challenge aspects of the road widening and land acquisition process. The committee stated that Collectorate officials are pressing ahead with land acquisition even though the government has not yet filed its counter in the pending petitions.

The committee has also questioned why the acquisition process is moving forward when the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the elevated corridor project has not been finalised. Property owners are seeking full clarity on the proposed alignment, road width, properties likely to be affected, and the details of the compensation package before any further steps are taken.

In addition, the JAC alleged that some property owners received phone calls from Collectorate officials urging them to immediately accept the offered compensation, with warnings that they could lose the compensation if they failed to accept it right away.

Clarifying the stance of the affected residents, JAC chairman Telukunta Satish Gupta said that the owners are not against development or road widening, but maintained that development should not force people to lose their properties, businesses, and livelihoods without receiving fair compensation.
