Property Owners Hit by 22A Restrictions Meet BRS Leaders at Telangana Bhavan

Hundreds of property owners affected by Section 22A prohibited lists and Urban Land Ceiling restrictions gathered at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday, seeking relief from registration blocks that have left their families in financial distress.

The affected residents met with former Ministers and Bharat Rashtra Samithi Legislature Party deputy leaders T Harish Rao and P Sabitha Indra Reddy. They narrated their ordeal, explaining that they were unable to sell, register, or access the financial value of properties purchased with valid documents.

Several property owners detailed their grievances during the gathering. Mohan Reddy stated that he had booked a registration slot and paid the entire stamp duty, only to be informed on the day of registration that his property had been placed on the 22A prohibited list. Another resident, Rajesh, said he bought a house in 2017 with a bank loan and decided to sell it on July 1 to start a business after losing his job. Despite applying at the MRO office two months earlier and securing bank approval for a loan transfer, the sale could not be registered.

Devender Rao, secretary of the HMT Housing Colony Society, explained that the colony layout was approved in 1995 and comprises hundreds of houses. However, survey number 330 was recently placed in the 22A list. He noted that a representation submitted to Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy in July had yielded no relief.

Residents from B N Nagar and Uppal stated that registrations in their colony, which comprises more than 1,500 houses, had previously taken place without hindrance but were now blocked citing ULC restrictions. Similarly, Srinivas from Ameenpur said his property, purchased a decade ago with clear documentation and a bank loan, was blocked after he paid stamp duty to sell it.

Victims alleged that entire colonies were being added to the prohibited list based on survey numbers without valid reasons, claiming the restrictions were being used arbitrarily by officials and Congress leaders.

Assuring the gathered citizens of their support, Harish Rao and Sabitha Indra Reddy stated that the BRS would take up the issue inside and outside the Legislative Assembly and continue agitating until justice is delivered to those affected.
