Property owner and contractor arrested after Jiyaguda wall collapse kills carpenter

The Kulsumpura police have arrested a property owner and a contractor after an old wall collapsed at an unauthorized construction site in New Ganga Nagar, Jiyaguda, killing a 36-year-old carpenter and injuring another man. The incident, which took place at approximately 8 p.m. on June 22, led to the arrests of property owner Yada Vinod Kumar and contractor Dundigala Srinivas Sagar on Wednesday.

The victim, Angad, who was a carpenter residing in Bharath Nagar, Jiyaguda, succumbed to the severe injuries he sustained when the structure collapsed. Another man, identified as Dilip Paswan, suffered minor injuries in the same incident. According to the police, the two men were simply returning home when the old wall, which stood adjacent to the active construction site, suddenly collapsed on top of them.

Following the fatal accident, Rohit Paswan, the brother of the deceased carpenter, lodged a formal complaint. Based on this complaint, the Kulsumpura police registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

During the probe, investigators revealed that excavation work at the Jiyaguda site had been undertaken illegally. The property owner and the contractor had not obtained the necessary permissions from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) before starting the work. Furthermore, investigators found that the site completely lacked mandatory safety measures, such as barricades, fencing, warning boards, and other public safety arrangements.

The police investigation also established that the accused were aware of the danger. Despite noticing visible cracks in the adjoining wall during the excavation process, both Kumar and Sagar failed to take any precautionary measures to secure the structure. This negligence directly resulted in the wall collapsing and the subsequent death of Angad.

Both arrested individuals are being produced before a court as the Kulsumpura police continue their investigation into the incident.
