Ponnam Prabhakar Orders Unsafe Building Survey and Nala Desilting at Tank Bund Meet

On 19 June 2026, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner RV Karnan held a key review meeting at Tank Bund in Hyderabad to assess the city's preparedness for the monsoon season. The meeting aimed to evaluate civic management strategies and implement measures to minimize flooding risks and ensure public safety.

During the meeting at Tank Bund, Minister Prabhakar directed civic body officials to initiate a comprehensive survey of all dilapidated and unsafe buildings across all circles of the city. The minister instructed officials to immediately issue notices to the owners of these properties, ordering them to vacate the structures or take immediate measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the monsoon.

In addition to structural safety, the minister focused on the city's drainage infrastructure. He directed the concerned officials to intensify nala desilting and clearance works. According to the minister, these actions are necessary to facilitate the free flow of stormwater and significantly reduce the risk of urban flooding in Hyderabad.

The meeting also addressed water conservation and groundwater recharge. Minister Prabhakar stated that rainwater harvesting (RWH) pits must be made compulsory for all residential apartments and commercial establishments. He instructed municipal officials to identify buildings that currently lack RWH pits and to serve them with notices to ensure strict compliance.

Furthermore, the minister and civic officials reviewed the functionality of streetlights and the progress of the ongoing tree plantation drive across the municipal limits.

The review meeting was attended by GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, Hyderabad Collector Priyanka Ala, and other municipal corporation officials.
