Police Wireless Set Found at Ganja Peddlers' House in Balanagar

A sub-inspector’s wireless manpack was discovered at the residence of three brothers accused of running a ganja network in Balanagar during a raid by EAGLE Force personnel. Adding to the breach, a police constable was found present inside the house consuming toddy while the enforcement team conducted the search.

The three accused persons—identified as Bolla Durgaprasad, Bolla Kamalakar, and Bolla Kiran Kumar, brothers hailing from Andhra Pradesh—were residing in Balanagar. The brothers had reportedly been projecting themselves as suppliers of catering workers while carrying out illicit activities.

According to sources, the accused brothers developed contacts with a sub-inspector and several constables from a police unit handling theft cases. They had provided information about thieves in some theft cases and assisted the police in cracking those investigations, following which the police personnel became acquainted with them.

While continuing their regular interactions with the police personnel, the brothers allegedly became involved in ganja trafficking. They provided a room near their residence for police personnel to hold private gatherings. Sources stated that the sub-inspector had forgotten his wireless manpack at the home of the accused, who then hid the equipment intentionally. The device was recovered from the premises during the EAGLE raid.

The raid was carried out following specific information regarding the brothers' alleged ganja activities. When the EAGLE team entered the residence, they found a constable who had reportedly brought toddy from his native place and organised a party at the house.

Two cases have been registered with the Balanagar police in connection with the matter. In addition, an internal departmental inquiry is under way to determine the full circumstances surrounding how the sub-inspector's communication equipment went missing and why the constable was present inside the suspects' residence.
