Police Raid Sri Lakshmi Dairy Products in Ramanthapur Over Adulterated Ice Cream

On 15 July 2026, the Uppal Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Hyderabad Police conducted a raid on an ice cream manufacturing unit in Laxminarayana Colony, Ramanthapur. The operation uncovered an alleged racket involving the use of expired, contaminated, and unlabelled ingredients in the production of ice cream.

The manufacturing unit, operating under the name Sri Lakshmi Dairy Products, was subjected to a surprise inspection by police officers acting on credible information. The raid revealed what officials described as serious violations of standard food safety norms, turning what is meant to be a refreshing treat into a potential health hazard.

During the search, SOT officers discovered and seized several hazardous materials. The seized items included approximately 2 kilograms of mould-infested dried figs, multiple boxes and containers of expired synthetic food colours and flavouring agents, and nearly 1.5 kilograms of loose tutti-frutti that was suspected to have been used in the production process. Unlabelled raw materials were also found on the premises.

The owner of the manufacturing unit, identified as M Ramesh, was taken into custody by the SOT. He was subsequently handed over to the Uppal police, along with the seized materials, for further legal action.

According to police reports, preliminary questioning of the accused revealed that he had allegedly been using these expired food colours, flavouring agents, and unlabelled ingredients to cut down on production costs. The finished ice cream was then supplied to various local retail outlets.

Following the raid, officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact quantity of products sold and to identify the specific shops where the ice cream was distributed. Police authorities have issued a warning that stringent action will be taken against anyone found manufacturing or selling adulterated or expired food products.
