Police Detain Mohammed Sajid Over Fatal Anjaiah Nagar Building Collapse

Police have taken Mohammed Sajid into custody on Sunday in connection with the fatal collapse of an illegal under-construction building at Anjaiah Nagar in Gachibowli. Two migrant workers died and three other individuals were injured when the structure gave way.

A criminal case has been registered against Sajid for allegedly constructing the unauthorised structure in the neighbourhood. In addition to Sajid, police have cited a contractor as an accused in the ongoing investigation into the incident.

According to officials, the ill-fated building was being erected on a 50-square-yard plot directly over a nala. The construction had raised serious concerns regarding blatant violations of safety regulations and municipal building norms.

The two deceased victims were identified as Umesh Khare and Mopath, both migrant tile workers hailing from Madhya Pradesh who had been engaged in construction work at the site when the collapse occurred.

The collapse also caused injuries to three other people. Among the injured was a 25-year-old resident of Jayadarsini Residency, an apartment complex situated adjacent to the construction site. The resident was asleep in his home when debris from the collapsing structure fell onto him. Two other workers on the premises also sustained injuries during the incident.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unauthorised construction and the safety lapses that led to the fatal collapse.
