Police Bust Illegal Tobacco Manufacturing Unit in Katedan, Arrest One

The Mailardevpally police busted an illegal tobacco manufacturing unit operating out of a warehouse in Katedan, Hyderabad, on June 30, 2026. During the targeted raid, law enforcement officers arrested a supervisor who was managing the facility on-site and launched a search to locate two other individuals accused of organizing the unlicensed operation.
The arrested supervisor has been identified by the police as 36-year-old Tana Ram. According to the police, Ram is a native of Rajasthan who was residing in the Shyamala Nagar locality of Shivarampally at the time of the police action.
Following his arrest, Ram was subjected to interrogation by the investigators. During the questioning, he informed the police that the Katedan warehouse unit was being operated by Syed Jameel and Jithu Mishra. Both Jameel and Mishra are residents of the Begum Bazar area. The police confirmed that the organizers were operating the entire zarda manufacturing facility without obtaining any of the required official licenses or permits.
The police stated that the illegal operation involved packing the processed tobacco into small sachets. These sachets were then distributed and supplied to local retail shops and paan vendors located across different neighborhoods in Hyderabad.
During the raid on the Katedan warehouse, police officers seized a substantial quantity of illicit goods and machinery used for the production of the tobacco products. The confiscated items included 20 kilograms of processed tobacco, also known as zarda, and large paper rolls used for packaging the product.
Additionally, the police recovered 110 drums containing tobacco alongside two specialized tobacco manufacturing machines from the warehouse site. A case has been officially registered by the Mailardevpally police, and further investigation is currently underway as authorities continue their search to apprehend the two organizers.
