Police arrest rowdy sheeter disguised as baba near Phool Bagh

The Commissioner’s Task Force, Hyderabad, in coordination with the Saifabad police, has apprehended an absconding rowdy sheeter who disguised himself as a 'baba' to evade law enforcement. The accused was arrested near Phool Bagh, close to Nana Miya Masjid, which falls under the limits of the Saifabad police station in Hyderabad.

The arrested individual has been identified as 33-year-old Mohd Shaik Javed. Javed is a registered rowdy sheeter of the Lake police station and had been absconding from the police since June 5, 2025. He was a wanted suspect in connection with an ongoing 2018 murder case that was registered at the Saifabad police station. Due to his failure to appear, a court had previously issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

During police questioning, the accused confessed that he fled Hyderabad in January 2026 to escape arrest. He initially stayed at his grandparents’ house located near Cheriyal Road in the Sangareddy district.

To further avoid detection and evade the execution of the pending court warrant, Javed took up the role of a priest at the Jindesha Madar Dargah near Kandi in the Sangareddy district. He posed as a 'baba' while working at the dargah to keep his true identity hidden from the local authorities.

Acting on a specific tip-off, the Khairtabad Zone Task Force of the Commissioner’s Task Force, along with the Saifabad police, tracked down Javed to his location in Hyderabad and took him into custody. Upon apprehending the accused, officers searched him and seized 115 grams of dry ganja that was in his possession.

Following his arrest, the police produced Javed before the local court on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody, successfully executing the long-pending non-bailable warrant against him.
