Police arrest drug peddler and 29 consumers in Fathenagar marijuana bust

The Cyberabad Eagle Force and the Hyderabad Narcotics Police Station (HNPS) have successfully busted a local marijuana network operating from Fathenagar in Balanagar, Hyderabad. The major anti-narcotics operation, which was reported on July 10, 2026, resulted in the arrest of a local drug peddler and 29 consumers, alongside the seizure of 17.8 grams of marijuana.

During the joint operation, police officers intercepted a total of 31 individuals who had traveled to the Fathenagar area from various different parts of Hyderabad to purchase the illicit substance. Upon conducting tests, officials confirmed that 29 of these intercepted individuals tested positive for drug consumption. Furthermore, police officers found three of the intercepted individuals carrying small packets of the drug, which weighed a combined total of approximately 15 grams.

The police identified the main suppliers of the local distribution network as Kaliwala Ajay, also known as Akash, and his 78-year-old grandmother, Chandramma. Ajay is a local fruit vendor operating in the Fathenagar area. According to police officials, Chandramma allegedly managed the distribution directly, selling five-gram packets of marijuana for Rs. 500 each outside her residence to earn substantial profits.

While law enforcement officials successfully arrested Ajay during the bust, his grandmother Chandramma managed to evade the police and remains absconding. The police have launched a search to locate her.

According to officials, the arrested consumers are mostly young adults of around 25 years of age. During police questioning, they admitted to being addicted to the drug for more than two years. The arrested individuals also provided key information about the drug trade in the city, revealing that Fathenagar, Nanakramguda, and Dhoolpet are currently among the major supply points for marijuana in Hyderabad.
