PIB Hyderabad Holds Varta Workshop on Organ Donation at Kavadiguda

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Hyderabad organised a Varta media workshop centered on the theme "Myths and Facts on Organ Donation" at CGO Towers in Kavadiguda on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day. The workshop brought together experts and officials to address common misconceptions surrounding organ donation, present medical facts, and emphasize the critical role of voluntary pledges and donor families.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sree Bhushan Raju, Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology and Head of SOTTO (Jeevandan) at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), described organ donation as a noble act. He highlighted that a deceased person can give another individual a new lease on life through donation.

Dr. Raju pointed out that despite remarkable strides in medical science and transplantation, human organs cannot yet be fully replicated by technology. This limitation makes the generosity of donors and their families invaluable in saving lives.

Explaining the biological complexities involved in organ transplantation, Dr. Raju stated that the human immune system naturally recognizes a transplanted organ as a foreign substance and attempts to reject it. He noted that advances in medical science have made it possible to control this immune response, significantly enhancing transplantation outcomes for patients.

Dr. Manas Krishnakanth, IIS, Joint Director of PIB Hyderabad, spoke on the objective of the initiative, explaining that media workshops like Varta provide informative sessions to debunk misconceptions surrounding organ donation and distinguish them from medical facts.

The event also highlighted national awareness efforts, including the "Jug Jug Jiyo (Angdaan Karo, Jug Jug Jiyo)" movement launched by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) on Indian Organ Donation Day. The initiative aims to inspire voluntary family discussions and pledges to strengthen the transplantation ecosystem nationwide.
