Photography Exhibition '43 Frames' Opens at State Gallery of Art in Madhapur

A photography exhibition titled "43 Frames" was inaugurated on Sunday at the State Gallery of Art in Madhapur, bringing together the works of 43 Hyderabad-based photographers ahead of World Photography Day on August 19.

Presented by the Hyderabad Centre for Photography (HCP), the exhibition showcases a wide array of visual themes. The displayed works capture moments spanning landscapes, portraits, street photography, architecture, and slices of everyday life unfolding across the gallery walls.

The final 43 photographs featured in the showcase were chosen from nearly 400 submissions sent in by local photographers, with each selected frame offering a distinct way of seeing the world.

Explaining the thought behind the selection process, Aquin Mathews, director of HCP, emphasized the significance of the creators' perspectives. "These photographs offer us a glimpse into the individual ways photographers observe, interpret and respond to the world around them," Mathews said. "For us, the exhibition is as much about the photographers and their voices as it is about the photographs themselves."

The diversity of the exhibition is reflected both in the subjects on display and in the stories behind the images. Among the works is a photograph captured by Sri Devi S showing an elephant drinking milk from a bottle. Describing the story behind the shot, she noted that she took the photograph at an elephant orphanage in Nairobi, where capturing the frame required being ready for a moment that lasted only a few seconds.
