Owaisi vows to build 10 institutions if Salkam Cheruvu campus is demolished

Owaisi vows to build 10 institutions if Salkam Cheruvu campus is demolished

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Assembly floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi declared that he would build ten educational institutions for every one demolished, following legal scrutiny over the alleged encroachment of the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational KG-PG Campus in the Salkam Cheruvu lake area of Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad.

The statement by the Chandrayangutta MLA came two days after the Telangana High Court, on Friday, July 3, 2026, directed state authorities to submit all relevant records concerning the campus within one week. The court is examining allegations that the educational campus was constructed within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of Salkam Cheruvu lake.

Addressing an event for his educational institutions, Owaisi stated that his mission to provide free education to the poor would not be weakened by potential demolition actions.

"If you demolish one institution, I will build 10," Owaisi said. He alleged that some individuals were using their authority to pressure him and target his institutions. "Even if you demolish the buildings, I will teach the children under the open sky but will not bow before you."

Owaisi emphasized his commitment to supporting orphans, empowering women, and offering free NEET coaching, adding that these institutions would continue to function even if he was no longer around.

The legal scrutiny intensified on Friday when a single-judge bench of the Telangana High Court expressed strong displeasure over the state authorities' continued failure to comply with previous directions. The judge warned that appropriate orders would follow if there was further non-compliance regarding the submission of reports and statutory approvals.

The AIMIM leader's remarks drew criticism from Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Speaking on social media platform X, Kumar accused Owaisi of challenging the judicial system.

Kumar questioned why the Congress-led state government had delayed its response to the High Court and remained silent on the Fatima institutions while acting against other structures. He asserted that constructing educational institutions on encroached lake land is illegal and claimed that if the BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will demolish the campus while ensuring alternative arrangements for the students.
