Owaisi Urges ECI, GHMC Action As BLOs Refuse SIR Forms On Bonalu Holidays

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner to urgently address complaints regarding Booth Level Officers (BLOs) allegedly refusing to accept enumeration forms in Hyderabad on August 9 and August 10.

Raising the issue in a post on social media platform X, Owaisi tagged the official handles of the ECI and the GHMC Commissioner after receiving multiple complaints at the party's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Guidance Desk. Citizens expressed concern after BLOs reportedly cited public holidays for Bonalu and Rangam as reasons for refusing to collect voter forms.

Owaisi noted that the Election Commission has set August 10 as the deadline for citizens to submit their enumeration forms. He pointed out that despite the official timeline, BLOs were telling residents that they would not be accepting forms on August 9, which marks Bonalu, and August 10, a public holiday for Rangam.

"Since yesterday, we have received too many complaints from people at our SIR Guidance Desk that BLOs have clearly told them that they won't be taking Enumeration forms on 9th (Bonalu) and 10th (Rangam public holiday)," Owaisi stated. He added that many individuals were seen panicking at the guidance desk due to the refusal.

Urging election officials to take immediate steps, Owaisi requested authorities to look into the matter so that eligible voters are not deprived of the opportunity to complete the registration process within the stipulated schedule.

The development comes amid the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise in Telangana, during which BLOs are assigned to distribute and collect enumeration forms while assisting voters with required formalities before the deadline.
