Over 5,000 Run in Gowliguda Central Gurudwara Sahib Centenary Marathon

Hyderabad: More than 5,000 people from across Telangana participated in a centenary marathon organised at the HMDA Grounds near IMAX on Sunday to mark 100 years of the historic Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda.

Held under the theme “Run for Faith, Run for Sewa”, the marathon brought together participants cutting across age groups, castes, and creeds. The event reflected the core spirit of community, inclusiveness, and service associated with the 100-year-old Sikh institution.

The event offered multiple categories to engage diverse participants, featuring 3K and 5K runs along with a dedicated Family Walkathon. Children, young runners, families, and senior citizens participated enthusiastically in the morning run.

Prominent Sikh personalities flagged off the marathon at the HMDA Grounds. Following the flag-off, participants in the 3K run proceeded towards People’s Plaza, while runners in the 5K category continued further along the route towards Jal Vihar.

Organisers stated that the marathon was conceived not merely as a sporting event, but as an inclusive community celebration to commemorate a significant historical milestone for the gurudwara.

The marathon marks the commencement of a year-long calendar of centenary celebrations. Organisers have planned a wider series of religious, cultural, and community programmes across the year. The upcoming schedule for September will feature spiritual and community events including Akhand Path Sahib, Kirtan Darbar, and Amrit Sanchar.
