More than 5,000 people from across Telangana gathered at HMDA Grounds near IMAX in Hyderabad on Sunday to participate in a centenary marathon marking 100 years of Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda.
Organised under the theme 'Run for Faith, Run for Sewa', the event featured 3K and 5K runs alongside a Family Walkathon. The gathering brought together participants of all age groups, including children, families, and senior citizens.
Before the run commenced, participants took part in a warm-up and Zumba session. The 3K runners followed a route heading towards People’s Plaza, while participants in the 5K category continued further towards Jal Vihar.
Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda was founded in 1926 and has served as a central hub for spiritual, cultural, and community activities for the Sikh community over the past century.
Prabhandak Committee Chairman S Rajender Singh and President S Trilok Singh stated that Sunday's marathon marked the official start of year-long celebrations focused on faith, community service, and unity. The centenary schedule will also include Akhand Path Sahib, Kirtan Darbar, and Amrit Sanchar in September.
At the conclusion of the event, race winners received medals and gifts, while all participants were provided with T-shirts and bronze finisher medals. Additionally, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority Urban Forestry Wing distributed free saplings to people attending the event.
