Over 31 Lakh Voter Discrepancy Notices Issued in Telangana, Says CEO

Hyderabad: Election authorities have delivered about one-third of discrepancy notices to voters across Telangana whose records contained anomalies, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudarshan Reddy announced on Tuesday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued more than 31 lakh notices so far out of a total of 92.88 lakh notices identified for voters with anomalies. These discrepancy notices were generated using ERONET, a centralised web-based application developed by the ECI to clean and maintain draft electoral rolls.

CEO C Sudarshan Reddy informed that hearings for close to two lakh cases have already been completed. Specifically, hearings on 1,94,737 notices have taken place at the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) level.

Election officials confirmed that the remaining 61 lakh notices will be delivered to citizens in a phased manner. Hearings for the remaining notices are scheduled to take place in the coming days within the timeframe stipulated by the ECI, conducted by 1,973 AEROs and 119 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) across the state.

Alongside the discrepancy notices, the department has recorded a large influx of submissions from voters. By Tuesday, a total of 9,07,292 claims and objections had been received across the state.

Among the claims and objections logged, the largest share came through Form-8 for corrections in draft electoral rolls, which numbered 4,57,677 applications. A total of 3,94,517 applications were submitted through Form-6 for enrolment as new voters.

Furthermore, the authorities received 48,752 applications under Form-7 for objections and deletions from the draft electoral rolls, while 6,346 submissions were registered under Form-6A for enrolment as new overseas voters.
