Osmania Medical College First-Year MBBS Student Dies by Suicide in Hyderabad

A first-year undergraduate MBBS student from Osmania Medical College, Dr. K. Bharadwaj Reddy, allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad, sending shockwaves through the local medical community.

The student's body was recovered on Sunday from an under-construction site near the Erramanzil area in Hyderabad.

According to friends, Bharadwaj had been missing since 10 pm the previous night. His family initially believed he might have gone to a friend's place for late-night study sessions, as examinations are currently underway. However, the family was later alerted about the incident on Sunday.

The Telangana Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) expressed deep anguish over the tragedy. The incident has once again highlighted the psychological toll and stress faced by trainee doctors in Telangana.

This incident follows an earlier tragedy in April, when Dr. K. Suresh, a first-year postgraduate medical student from Osmania Medical College, also died by suicide.

The back-to-back losses within the same medical institution have reignited urgent concerns regarding demanding academic schedules, unaddressed mental health challenges, and systemic stressors affecting medical students across government institutions.
