Osmania General Hospital Hosts Medical Education Programme on Trauma Care

The Hyderabad chapter of International Trauma Care (ITC) organised a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on trauma care at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Saturday, bringing together medical practitioners from various disciplines.

The training event gathered trauma-care specialists, postgraduate medical students, nurses, and paramedics to discuss strategies for addressing the increasing burden of trauma cases. Discussions highlighted the critical need for a structured, multidisciplinary approach to the management and treatment of trauma victims.

Throughout the programme, experts addressed several key areas of trauma intervention. These included the initial assessment of victims, hurdles encountered during pre-hospital emergency care, and protocols surrounding damage-control resuscitation and surgical interventions. Sessions also focused on critical techniques in airway management, along with specialised care required for pelvic trauma and ocular injuries.

Specialists representing diverse medical departments shared insights and current clinical approaches. Participating fields included Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services, Orthopaedics, Trauma Surgery, Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, and Ophthalmology.

In addition to academic discussions, the programme featured a practical session. Medical teams conducted a live demonstration of primary and secondary trauma surveys using a moulaged standard trauma patient presenting with a head injury and a femur fracture to illustrate effective emergency handling protocols.
