Osmania and Gandhi Hospital Doctors Suspend Outpatient Services Over Transfers

Senior doctors at Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad suspended outpatient services on Friday morning, June 5, 2026, protesting an alleged lack of transparency in the health department's ongoing transfer process. The sudden boycott disrupted outpatient facilities at both major government hospitals.

The protest was triggered by growing resentment among government medical professionals regarding how the state government is executing transfers. While outpatient services were heavily impacted, the administrations at both Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital initiated emergency backup plans to ensure that vital medical services and emergency care continued without interruption.

The Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) has backed the protesting doctors and warned of a wider, statewide agitation if the government does not address the issues. Dr. B. Narahari, president of the TGGDA, stated that while the association had not officially declared a formal suspension of healthcare services, the doctors at the two hospitals independently decided to take this step.

"Our members of OGH and Gandhi Hospital are upset over the way the State government is implementing the transfers," Dr. Narahari said. "Although TGGDA did not formally announce the suspension of health care services, our members at Gandhi and OGH have decided to take such measures. We will hold another round of meeting with our members and the State government to resolve all outstanding issues."

The escalation follows a warning issued by the TGGDA on Thursday night. The association had threatened to launch a statewide suspension of medical services unless the transfer process is made completely transparent.

Specifically, the TGGDA is demanding that the state government fully and transparently implement Government Order (G.O.) No. 38. The association insists that the government must address the specific concerns raised by the doctors regarding the transfer guidelines to prevent further disruptions to healthcare services across Telangana.
