One-Way Traffic System Around KBR Park to Begin from August 18

The Hyderabad traffic police will implement a one-way traffic system around KBR Park starting August 18 to manage vehicular movement as construction progresses on the Rs 1,090-crore H-CITI project.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar stated that the traffic management plan was finalised after a detailed study and two rounds of trial runs. The traffic police collaborated with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to rectify issues noticed during the trials before settling on the final diversion plan. Consultations were also held with local residents, walkers, and representatives of neighbourhood welfare associations around KBR Park.
The H-CITI project carries a completion timeline of 24 months. Designed to streamline travel between the core city and the IT corridor, the project features seven multi-level steel flyovers and seven directional underpasses to create largely signal-free corridors. Officials noted the upgrades are aimed at lowering fuel consumption and cutting carbon emissions by reducing vehicle idling times at major intersections.
Traffic assessments conducted for the project revealed heavy congestion along the corridor, with existing signal systems proving inadequate for volumes exceeding 10,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) per hour. Jubilee Hills Check Post recorded the highest peak-hour volume at 15,321 PCUs per hour, making it the most congested point along the route, followed by KBR Park Entrance Junction at 13,516 PCUs per hour.
Other heavily loaded junctions include Maharaja Agrasen Junction with 10,356 PCUs per hour, Road No 45 Junction with 9,966 PCUs, Filmnagar Junction with 9,605 PCUs, and Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital Junction with 5,880 PCUs per hour.
The project is split into two packages. Package-I covers Jubilee Hills Check Post, KBR Park Entrance, and Mugdha Junction. Package-II covers Road No 45, Filmnagar, Maharaja Agrasen, and Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital junctions. Once completed, the multi-level infrastructure is expected to ease bottleneck points and reduce traffic congestion at Jubilee Hills Check Post by approximately 80 per cent.
Sajjanar acknowledged that motorists might experience initial inconvenience due to route changes from August 18 and appealed to commuters and area residents for their cooperation.
