Nurse Accused of Killing Her Parents Dies by Suicide in Sangareddy Hostel

A 25-year-old nurse, who had been arrested earlier this year for the murder of her elderly parents, committed suicide at her hostel in Shantinagar in Sangareddy on Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Surekha, had recently been released on bail. She had been arrested in connection with the deaths of her father, Dasharatham (58), and mother, Lakshmi (54), at their residence in Vikarabad in January 2026.
According to police, Surekha was working as a nurse at a private hospital in Sangareddy when she met a driver from Kondapur mandal via Instagram. When she informed her parents about the relationship, they strongly opposed it due to caste differences and began arranging her marriage elsewhere. The couple had three daughters and a son, with Surekha being the only unmarried child.
On January 24, Surekha brought sedatives stolen from the hospital where she was employed to her family home. She first approached her mother, who was suffering from chronic pain, and offered her an injection under the pretext of helping her sleep. Lakshmi accepted the injection, but the lethal dose proved fatal.
Later that evening, when her father returned from farm work, Surekha persuaded him that he was exhausted and administered the same sedative to him. Both parents died in their sleep.
The following morning, Surekha claimed to neighbours that her parents were unresponsive. Her brother, Ashok, grew suspicious and took their parents to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Following a complaint filed by Ashok, Dharur police registered a case.
While the deaths were initially suspected to be suicides linked to debts, postmortem examinations confirmed that both victims died from a sedative overdose. During interrogation, Surekha gave contradictory statements before confessing to the crime. After being released on bail, she moved into a hostel in Sangareddy, where she took her own life using the same method she had used on her parents.
