NIMS Punjagutta to Offer Free Paediatric Heart Surgeries From August 13

Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Punjagutta, Hyderabad, will launch a free heart surgery initiative for children starting Thursday, August 13. The specialised surgical procedures will be conducted by the hospital’s CT surgery department in collaboration with London-based physician and paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Ramana Tannashuneni, alongside a team of technical experts.
Speaking on Monday, NIMS Director Dr. Rahul Devraj announced that the paediatric heart surgeries will be led by Prof. Amareshwar, Head of CT Surgery, and his team on behalf of NIMS.
Dr. Devraj explained that children brought to the facility will be evaluated through a walk-in process, with priority assigned strictly based on medical necessity. Following the completion of required medical examinations, surgeries will be performed completely free of cost for children who require them.
Parents and their children can visit the hospital directly without any prior appointment. Consultations and initial evaluations will be conducted from Monday to Saturday, between 8 am and 2 pm.
The initiative will operate out of the CT surgery department, located on the first floor of the old block at NIMS in Punjagutta. Hospital officials have advised parents to bring along any previous medical tests and old medical reports, if available, when visiting the facility.
