NIMS Neurosurgeon Dr Thirumal Yerragunta Selected as UCF Scientist in Residence

Dr Thirumal Yerragunta, an Additional Professor of Neurosurgery at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, has been selected as a Scientist-in-Residence at The India Center, University of Central Florida (UCF) in the United States. The week-long academic residency is taking place from August 9 through August 16.

During the week-long residency, Dr Yerragunta is participating in a wide range of academic interactions. His schedule provides him with opportunities to connect directly with UCF faculty members, medical students, and pre-medical students. He is also meeting with high-school students, practicing physicians from the Indian diaspora, and members of the local Central Florida community.

As a featured part of his visit, Dr Yerragunta delivered a public lecture at the UCF College of Medicine. Throughout his interactions with university students and faculty members, discussions are focused on crucial developments in medical education, the practice of modern neurosurgery, and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

A key objective of the residency is to explore future academic opportunities. Dr Yerragunta and representatives at UCF are holding discussions to identify possibilities for greater academic collaboration between medical and research institutions based in India and the United States.

Additionally, Dr Yerragunta has been invited as a special guest and speaker at The India Center at UCF’s Indian Independence Day celebrations on August 15, taking place in Orlando. The details regarding his residency and scheduled speaking engagements were formally announced through an official press release issued by NIMS.
