NIMS Hyderabad to Provide Free Heart Surgeries for Children Starting August 13

Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad will offer free heart surgeries for children across a one-week period starting August 13. NIMS Director Rahul Devaraj announced the initiative on Monday, confirming that the medical drive aims to provide critical cardiac interventions to eligible young patients.

The surgeries will be carried out by the NIMS department of cardiothoracic surgery. The hospital's surgical team will be joined by London-based paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Ramana Tannashuneni alongside a supporting team of technical experts.

In an official statement, NIMS highlighted that it has been organizing this annual free heart surgery programme for the past five years. Children requiring surgical intervention for cardiac conditions will be screened on a walk-in basis, with priority assigned based on individual medical need.

All necessary diagnostic tests will be conducted at the hospital prior to any surgery. Both the diagnostic evaluations and the surgical procedures will be provided entirely free of cost to eligible pediatric patients.

Parents and guardians seeking evaluation for their children can visit the CT Surgery office, located on the first floor of the Old Block at NIMS in Hyderabad. The screening desk will operate from Monday to Saturday, between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.

No prior appointment is necessary to participate in the screening process. Parents are advised to bring along any previous medical reports and test results for their children, if available, to present during the consultation.
