NIMS Hyderabad to Provide Free Heart Surgeries for Children From August 13

The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad will begin providing free heart surgeries for children starting August 13, 2026. The initiative is being organised as part of the hospital's annual social health programme to provide specialised cardiac care to pediatric patients who require surgical intervention.

Parents and guardians seeking treatment for children needing heart surgery can approach NIMS directly without booking any prior appointment. The hospital will conduct initial screenings and consultations on a walk-in basis, with patient priority assigned strictly based on medical necessity.

Following a clinical evaluation and any required medical tests, children who are found to be in need of surgery will receive the procedures completely free of cost.

Screening and consultations will take place at the CT Surgery Office, located on the first floor of the Old Block at NIMS. The office will receive visitors from Monday to Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

NIMS has been conducting this specialized programme annually for the past five years. The surgical procedures will be carried out under the supervision of Amaresh Rao, Head of the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, in collaboration with a team of technical experts from the UK and London-based paediatric cardiac surgeon Ramana Dhannapuneni.
