New panel elected to govern Hyderabad's Nizam Club, ending 18-year tenure

Members of the historic Nizam Club in Hyderabad elected a new, younger managing committee on July 5, bringing an end to the 18-year tenure of the previous administration. The high-turnout election saw a fresh panel of office-bearers voted in to govern one of the city's oldest clubs, reflecting a strong demand from members for transparency, accountability, and stronger governance.

The elections to the managing committee had previously been stalled for several months before the club finally went to the polls. According to the official results declared by returning officer Zafar Javeed, the election concluded with a clear mandate for change.

In the race for the vice-president post, Ashfaq Ahmed KM emerged victorious. Ahmed secured 1,233 votes, defeating his opponent Asha Latha K, who polled 1,192 votes.

For the post of honorary secretary, B Muthyam Reddy won after securing 1,333 votes. His opponent, M Amarender Reddy, secured 1,088 votes in the election.

The members also elected three new representatives to the club's managing committee. Syed Aamer Javeed emerged as the top vote-getter across the entire election, securing 1,411 votes. Rishiraj Singh Rathore was also elected to the committee with 1,189 votes, alongside P Shailaja Reddy, who secured 1,050 votes.

Speaking after the declaration of the results, the newly elected vice-president, Ashfaq Ahmed, stated that the election outcome reflected the members’ desire for change and stronger governance at the institution.

Ahmed expressed his gratitude to every member who placed their trust in the new panel. He emphasized that the mandate is for a transparent, accountable, and member-focused administration, and promised that the new committee will work to restore confidence in the overall functioning of the club.
