Nehru Zoological Park Launches Upgraded Enclosures and Four Safari Buses

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden Vinay Kumar launched a series of upgraded animal facilities and four newly procured safari buses at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad on Tuesday during the 63rd Zoo Day anniversary celebrations.

The infrastructural upgrades include a newly renovated night house for the Malayan sun bear, holding kraals for sambar and nilgai, and spacious day kraals designed to improve captive animal welfare. The additions are intended to provide better living conditions for the resident animals while supporting daily maintenance operations.

To improve visitor movement across the facility, the zoo rolled out four new safari buses. The additional vehicles will expand the operational capacity of the zoo's safari circuit, which carries visitors through zones housing lions, tigers, bears, and bison.

Kumar also introduced specialised animal health cards to monitor and track the veterinary and medical care of the animals. In addition, an official monthly zoo newsletter and newly designed wildlife conservation posters were officially unveiled during the anniversary programme.

The event also served to recognise the contributions of zoo employees. Staff members were presented with Excellence in Zoo Services awards in acknowledgement of their upkeep and management efforts. Championship trophies were also handed over to winning employee teams from a recently concluded sports meet, which featured competitions in cricket, kabaddi, tug of war, musical chairs, and other events.

Addressing the gathering, Kumar stated that the Hyderabad Zoo is among the pioneering and best zoos in the world. He added that this achievement has been made possible by the dedicated zoo staff, who continue to work untiringly in managing the facility.
